Week 1 Blog Assignment Part 1: Introduce yourself to us. Tell us about your current and future professional goals. My name is Jamie Huntington, and I live in Lakewood, CA. I have been teaching 9th and 11th grade English at Marina High School in Huntington Beach, CA for 21 years. For the last 6 years, I have been teaching credit recovery, specifically working with our lowest gpa students on campus. I have been very busy during my last few summers creating a new Theater Program for my district which includes students from 6th grade to high school. My program is based at my high school, but we include students from over 10 schools from both our district and feeder districts including second language and special education students. Hello, I love this infographic, and how your entire post is on it! I teach Theatre as well, and I was excited to learn about Pixton. I like your idea with The Crucible Storyboard. I teach middle school and create original storyboards with my fifth graders that eventually become a scene that they act out, so this would be a fun platform to try! I chose the same ISTE standard, 1.1. I think it is very important to stress the importance of setting goals and working towards them. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI love the infographic! I couldn't agree more with how important creativity is in today's world. I feel that many people think you have to be "artsy" in order to be creative, but there are so many other ways. People need to be creative problem solvers and think "outside the box" in order to make it in today's job market. I also love that chapter four talked about how important building on prior knowledge is, students often feel like they don't understand something, but with some prompting they can see they have the tools needed to complete the assigned task.

Good evening Jamie! I really enjoyed reading your infographic! I like how you incorporated your infographic as well as your paragraph all into one post. I also talked about Pixton in my infographic. Did your kids love it? I researched more into Pixton, and apparently it can be used for any subject. It was interesting how you used it for theater too! I learned a lot reading through your work. Hello Jamie! I love your infographic! It is very clear cut and easy to read. Great job! I loved reading about all the different programs Rivero mentioned. I am not familiar with Pixton. I looked it up after reading your post and it looks amazing! I would love to implement that in my classroom. My class is a huge fan of graphic novels and anything comic related so this would be the perfect platform. Thank you for the inspiration and great job!

This instantly gets my attention, which goes to show you are an amazing teacher that can get students excited about learning by just the presentation. :) I have never used Pixton, but would be interested if it enhances a student's knowledge of something like the Crucible. That in of itself can be complicated. Collaboration and utilizing different media platforms, some of which I am still learning about, contribute to a deeper understanding of material.
ReplyDeleteHello Jamie. Your infographic does a beautiful job presenting the information from the readings this week. It helped me to better understand self-regulation and students being able to manage their on learning. This is a constant issue with our new reading curriculum because the content is very boring. Students are not engaged and don't care to make meaning on their own. Some of the suggestions from Rivero are already making a difference and students are taking ownership of their own learning because they are able to creatively show their understanding.
